Job Description
Ed Direction, a Salt Lake City-based education consulting firm specializing in the use of data and evidence-based instruction to improve student achievement, seeks exemplary educators to join our team as improvement coaches. Individuals hired will provide coaching, leadership training, professional development, and progress monitoring to public schools (traditional and charter), school districts, and charter organizations with which the firm contracts to improve student achievement and school grades under state and district accountability systems. • Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) skills
• Ability to create and deliver engaging professional development and outstanding presentations
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across a variety of teams
• Ability to frequently seek and accept feedback
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to travel on-site to schools (mostly in-state, by car) 2-3 business days per week
• Ability to create and interpret data displays for schools, teachers, and state office staff
• Ability to create clear and effective project plans, and hold co-workers and school teams accountable for progress
• Ability to explain, interpret, teach, and assess core standards with learning progressions, effective formative assessments, and other tools
• Ability to clearly and effectively model evidence-based instructional strategies for individual teachers, teacher teams, and school leaders
• Ability to provide appropriate, clear, and meaningful feedback to teachers and administrators
• Ability to think strategically and systemically in an educational context
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Skills
• Fluency in a second language (especially Spanish)
• Bachelor’s degree in education or related field, Master’s degree or above strongly preferred
• School administrator licensure preferred
• Minimum of three years of successful classroom (teaching) experience; public school experience strongly preferred
• Three years of successful leadership experience in a public school, school district, or state office of education (e.g., assistant principal, principal, instructional coach, curriculum specialist, school supervisor, assessment director, etc.) is strongly preferred
• Successful track record of coaching principals, teachers, and teams toward measurable improvement in student achievement
• Substantial experience leading, coaching, or supporting collaborative district and school teams (e.g. professional learning communities, data teams, building leadership teams, etc.)
• Substantial knowledge and experience with assessment and progress monitoring
• Proven ability to work in diverse and challenging settings, and a track record of earning the trust and confidence of public school educators
• Knowledge of, and experience with, curriculum, standards, and grading (experience with state English/Language Arts, math, and science standards and curricula preferred)
• Substantial experience with, and passion for, disadvantaged student populations, including students of color, students in poverty, English Language Learners (ELL) and students with disabilities
• Successful project management experience
• Current driver’s license
